As of Februar this year opiate addicts in Copenhagen and Odense in will receive free heroin. Later on opiate addicts in neighbouring counties to Copenhagen will be able to join the programme.
An estimated 230 addicts are expected to join the programme which has been heavily debated for many years.
The Danish Government has provided 70 million crowns per year for the project.
